  2. Day 2

    Moshi – Machame Gate – Machame Camp

    Transfer from Moshi to Machame Gate. Registration and start of the trek through the rainforest. Damp ground, sometimes slippery and often rainy. Steady climb to the edge of the forest and the heather zone. Accommodation: base camp. Meals included: breakfast, lunch, dinner.

  3. Day 3

    Machame Camp – Shira Camp

    A shorter trek with a steep climb up to Picnic Rock. Views over the Kibo peak and the Shira plateau. Gentler trail to the camp. Accommodation: base camp. Meals included: breakfast, lunch, dinner.

  4. Day 4

    Shira Camp – Lava Tower – Barranco Camp

    Climb to the Lava Tower (4,630 m) to acclimatise. Descent into the Barranco valley and its giant groundsels. Accommodation: base camp. Meals included: breakfast, lunch, dinner.

    Ascent of the Barranco Wall. Descent into the Karanga valley, then back up to camp. Accommodation: base camp. Meals included: breakfast, lunch, dinner.

    Barafu Camp – Uhuru Peak – Mweka Camp

    Midnight departure for the summit push. Stop at Stella Point (5,685 m). Arrival at Uhuru Peak (5,895 m), the highest point in Africa. Descent to base camp for breakfast, then on to Mweka, arriving at 7 pm. Accommodation: Mweka Camp. Meals included: breakfast, lunch, dinner.
